As the wedding season approaches apace, love is blossoming! We see the splendour of nature all around. The birds are in full voice singing love’s praises. We are all warming to spring feelings and romance. Special bonds are formed based on tenderness, love and shared desires. Engagements and weddings are celebrated with receptions, singing and long speeches.
In honour of all this, only the best is good enough. Guldviva’s tribute to love consists of gold, silver, precious stones, and genuine craftsmanship that makes every piece of jewellery unique.
Our wedding and engagement rings are designed to be loved, to be worn, and to last for generations. We are also keen on sustainable manufacturing, which is why we use 100% recycled gold and silver.
Inspiration abounds all around us. Coastal flora and fauna, the patterns formed in the sand, the smooth granite rocks radiating strength; lichens and flowers as signs of the power to grow. Our love of nature is unmistakable. It is imprinted in every carat.
If you are looking for tips for honeymoon gifts, or jewellery for bridesmaids or flowergirls, we have some suggestions you’ll treasure here
DIAMONDS, GARNETS AND OTHER BEAUTIES
Several of our rings are set with beautifully cut gemstones. Gemstones have been used as jewellery for thousands of years, and they have also been thought to have magical properties.
Our diamonds come from well-documented suppliers, and we always deliver the larger ones with a GIA-issued certificate.
For other rings, we use garnets from Lapland, Finnish spectrolite, zirconia and ground red granite. The stones each have their unique qualities and have been chosen to be tastefully integrated into each piece of jewellery.
A smooth wedding band is a classic choice. The choice of metal determines much of the character of a smooth ring. A smooth wedding band is easy to combine with an engagement ring and other accessories. A smooth ring also offers choices. Choose from our handmade rectangular or semi-rounded rings, in widths of 3 or 5 mm and in silver or gold.
HAND-CRAFTED SMOOTH ENGAGEMENT AND WEDDING RINGS
EVA IS FINLAND’S MOST BEAUTIFUL RING 2022.
We are proud that our Eva ring won the award for Finland’s most beautiful ring in 2022. It takes its shape from something as natural and simple as potatoes and leaves. The name comes from Countess Eva Ekeblad. She taught us how to make the most of potatoes. For example, she described how to make potato brandy. She was the first woman inducted into the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, in 1748. The Eva collection consists of eight different handmade pieces of jewellery, made from recycled 925 Sterling Silver, all in a classic romantic style that the Countess would surely have appreciated.
A combination of beauty and strength inspired us to create the Bomarsund ring. The old fortress of Bomarsund was destroyed during the Crimean War, but you can admire parts of its substantial walls to this day. They are lined with tightly jointed hexagonal blocks of Åland red granite. The granite blocks form a decorative pattern that is not only beautiful but also gives the wall strength. This pattern is now echoed in the Bomarsund ring. A ring that encourages you to recognise your own beauty and strength.
We humans can survive more than we think. We bow before the storm and then lift ourselves up again. We grow, perhaps against all the odds. We let go and dive in, even though we are afraid. We face challenges, stumble and fall, and then we get up and move on.
With the Råg (“rye”) collection, Guldviva wanted to create symbols of this innate human endurance – the courage that carries us through our entire lives. Rye grows in the poorest of soils, withstands the harshest of winters and can endure both drought and infestation.
There is a strong seafaring tradition in the Åland Islands. Gustaf Erikson from Åland was the last major shipowner of windjammers in the world. In 1935, the Gustaf Erikson fleet consisted of fifteen ocean-going steel barques, eight North Sea sailing vessels and six motorsailers. And nothing is more natural to us Ålanders than the seafaring link. The square knot is so called because it was used to attach the square sail to the mast. Here, we tie it to our love of the sea. The range includes silver and gold rings, a tie clip, earrings, collier necklace, cufflinks and silver necklace.
THE WORLD’S MOST CHERISHED FLOWER, NOW AS A RING
The rose is perhaps the world’s most beloved flower. It comes in a variety of colours, each with its own symbolism. The red rose symbolises love and has done from time immemorial. Rosebuds symbolise early love, and a single rose means love at first sight. By giving someone a dozen red roses, you say in the language of flowers that you want the recipient to be “yours”. Another great way to show your love is to give a hand-made rose in 925 Sterling Silver or 18K Gold.
Åland is said to be Finland’s orchard. Nowhere else in Finland are there so many apple trees. This means, of course, that there’s nowhere else in Finland where you can enjoy so much beautiful apple blossom. It’s simply stunning! The trees are clothed in white and pink. When the blossom falls, the petals adorn the ground like snow. The most beautiful proof of the approach of summer. Choose from 18K Gold Apple Blossom with four Brilliant-cut ECOnatural Diamonds or Apple Blossom in 925 Sterling Silver.
EMBOSSED ENGAGEMENT RINGS AND WEDDING RINGS
Our Birch collection highlights the beauty of the forest through all four seasons. Winter rest. Spring’s tender shoots. A sumptuous summer, and the golden leaves of autumn. The birch, with its black-spotted white trunk, is one of our most beautiful trees, and one of the most distinctive. This tree also has the resilience and strength to stand up in the storm. The birch bark – silver, white and black – inspired us to create a piece of jewellery worthy of this tree. A smooth silver or gold ring where you can see and feel the embossing of the birch trunk.
Sustainable jewellery production really matters to us. Silver and gold mining often result in pollution and hazardous working conditions. That’s why we manufacture jewellery exclusively from recycled gold and silver. Both precious metals are easy to reuse.
When it comes to precious stones, the ability to monitor production and extraction is key. The ECOnatural™ diamonds we use are certified and traceable, so you know which mine they come from and that the mining operations there conform to strict environmental agreements.
A tip for you: buy timeless for durability. Then you know the jewellery you’re buying will last a long time and be worn a lot.
OUR WORKSHOP IS ADJACENT TO THE SHOP.
The honeymoon gift is an old tradition. In the past, the idea of the honeymoon gift was to give the woman financial security if the man died before her. Now the honeymoon gift has a more romantic meaning. We think of the honeymoon gift as a beautiful piece of jewellery to give to the bride the morning after the wedding.
Flowergirls are another tradition that we are delighted to support. They symbolise the path of life, which is why they go ahead into the church in Scandinavia. In this tradition, the flowergirls sometimes carry the wedding rings of the bridal couple, but they will certainly also appreciate their own little piece of jewellery to wear. As a nice memento of the big day.
